Our adoption fee includes the cost of vaccinations, spay/neuter, dental cleanings & extractions, and other care as needed. In most cases, the adoption fee does not cover all veterinary care. We depend on donations and fundraising to cover the difference.
- Submitting an application does not guarantee an adoption, neither does being the first applicant. First and foremost, our goal is to find the best possible fit for the Pom.
- We reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone.
- Potential adopters must consent to a home inspection and for the Pom to meet the entire family in residence.
- We will not adopt to anyone who gives misleading or inaccurate information on the application.
- To be considered as an adopter, you must meet the following criteria:
- Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord if you rent.
- Agree to return your Pom to PCCV, Inc. in the event you can no longer care for them. You are not allowed to re-home the pet under any circumstances.
- Provide proper food, shelter, training, exercise, grooming, and veterinary care for the life of the Pom.
- We do not allow electric/invisible fences or shock/bark collars to be used; you must either have a completely fenced-in yard, dog run, or always keep the dog on a harness and leash while outside.
- Please read our FAQs before submitting an application!
- Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. Your pet should be considered a valued family member who goes where you go, regardless of what happens in your life.
- Dogs are not born house-trained and patience and training, which takes time. Housetraining often regresses initially when Poms are rehomed. You must be willing to work with the dog!
- We will do our best to disclose as much as we know about the dog’s background and personality, as well as what home would be the best fit. While we will take an animal back at any time, we sincerely hope it works out; remember, adjustments take time.
- Please consider your personal situation (age, finances, home life, children, work) to see if you’re ready to adopt. Some dogs don’t adapt well to small spaces, and some are more energetic than others. Adopting an older dog may be better if you want a calmer pet. If you have an elderly parent seeking pet companionship, consider adopting a senior animal. Younger pets require more training, expense, and exercise. We will help you find a Pom that suits your lifestyle.
- Be prepared to commit to regular grooming, which may vary in frequency depending on the Pom’s coat type.
- Ensure that all members of the household are on board with the decision to adopt a Pom to create a harmonious environment.
- Consider the time and attention a Pom will require for socialization and bonding to become a well-adjusted member of the family.
- Evaluate your own lifestyle to determine if you can accommodate the needs of a Pom, including exercise and playtime.
- Remember that puppies require more intensive training and supervision than adult dogs, so factor this into your decision.
