Lady and Champ Surgery Update

Champ came through surgery like a CHAMP! He kept all of his teeth, and they are now pearly white!

However, he did lose something unexpected… it turns out he was not neutered! He had an undescended testicle. It was a surprise for the vet when they were repositioning him during his dental.

Lady’s surgery also went well, she only lost one tooth! She was a very happy girl at the doctor’s office and made friends with everyone there!

If youd like to help with their surgery costs, as well as the other fire survivors, we have a GoFundMe set up for them https://www.gofundme.com/f/Support-Our-Fire-Survivors-PCCV.

ADOPTED – Lady – F – DOB 10/11/2013

This is an update. Please read the previous post for more details: Lady & the Scamp – Brother/Sister

We are not 100% sure that she is bonded with her brother Champ. They don’t spend much time together and appear to follow their foster mom around more than they do each other. We are currently considering whether they can be separated for adoption, but would like to have a trial separation to see how it goes.

The first week, she stayed in the office where her foster mom works most of the time, except to eat. We set up a water bowl in the office to ensure she was drinking enough.

Like her brother, Lady loves to dance on her back legs and beg for a treat. She is super gentle about taking the treat from your fingers, almost dropping it.

She has been with us exactly 2 weeks today as I’m writing this. She remains very nervous and runs away whenever you try to pick her up. However, if you sit on the floor, she will come straight to you and climb into your lap; from there, you can pick her up.

As her trust grows, it is becoming easier to interact with her. She still puts her head down and ears back when you reach to pet her, and you have to move slowly and reassure her, but once you make contact, she likes a good butt scratch! I can reach down and pet her most of the time now, but her foster dad still has to get down to her level first. That makes sense because I work from home and she is with me 24/7.

On night 5, my husband brought her to the bedroom to show her where her foster mommy and the rest of the pack were hanging out. Now she likes to sleep at my feet and makes her way to the bedroom every night in her own time. She may not be there when we go to sleep, but she usually is when we wake up.

This past week, she has become more relaxed in the new environment, and I often find her following me as I pop into the kitchen or bathroom during the day. I expect she will continue to improve as she becomes more comfortable.

She is a very sweet girl and gets along with everyone. She needs a home with no children and experienced owners willing to give her the time and patience she needs to trust them and get comfortable.

Although she isn’t happy when her brother steals her bed!

If you would like to help sponsor their care and surgical needs, we have set up a GoFundMe or visit our Linktree for other options.

Our Amazing Supporters

Our followers have surprised us with their generosity yet again! We got several packages from our Amazon Wish List in the past 2 days. After the last round of rescues, we had run out of many of our supplies.

With 4 seniors in the house, potty pads are always helpful. All four of these have dental issues that need to be addressed. We are hopeful they will be able to have anesthesia despite their age. The Ultrasonic Dental Cleaner will be particularly helpful for our seniors who cannot undergo surgery, as it enables quick scaling for new rescues with severely damaged mouths that can literally stink up an entire room! Getting some of the tartar off helps reduce the odor until proper surgery can be performed.

As you can see in the picture, Scamp couldn’t wait to get his teeth into a Mintie!

BIG NEWS! Our beloved senior foster boy, Bandit, has officially been adopted!

He’s gone home with the family who reached out about him almost immediately after his rescue, and followed along with his story through his long recovery – talk about destiny!

This incredible family has followed Bandit’s journey from day one, through all his ups and downs, for nearly four months. After his dental procedure in early July, they finally got to meet him, and it was clear that this was the family that Bandit was waiting for. Bandit spent the weekend with them, and he’s already living his best life! He is the only dog with a couple of cats as buddies, and he has a lovely young lady as his best friend.

To Bandit’s new family: Thank you for your unwavering interest, your patience, and for opening your hearts and home to this special guy. It just makes us so happy to see Bandit be loved and cherished. Happy forever, Bandit!

ADOPTED – Wally

ADOPTED BY THE COUPLE WHO INITIALLY FOUND HIM

Currently located in Morganton, NC

Last weekend, our sister rescue in NC suffered a tragedy, their home burned down.  They were able to escape and rescue all the animals.  They are now living in a small camper on the property and do not have room for the rescues in their care.

Wally was dumped in the Walmart parking lot. Wally was in poor condition and is a parti pom. meaning he is part orange and part white. He is about 10 lbs.  He has no microchip. He does walk with a harness. He is blind in one eye, with signs of cataract appearing in the second eye. He seems to have difficulty in his rear, and this is noticeable from how he walks. He barks at doors or whenever he thinks he’s alone and can’t find you.

He was covered in feces and urine, so there are some healing skin conditions. He was so matted, we had no choice but to shave him, although we do not recommend shaving Pomeranians. It is unknown whether he is housebroken, but it is unlikely due to his condition. His age and past are unknown. He is very loving and gentle. He does not appear to be fixed. He appears to be elderly, but his teeth are in fairly good condition.

How to Groom a Pomeranian for Summer

How to Groom a Pomeranian for Summer

The harsh Summer sun can cause multiple possible problems. The sun has a gradual burning effect and may even change your Pomeranian’s fur color. A brown or black fur color may gain a reddish tinge. The sun may cause itchiness and/or peeling as the skin dries out.

To prevent such problems, use a good quality leave-in conditioner. The light spray helps prevent any harm, and if you select the right product, it will also work as a deodorizer, making your pet smell clean and fresh. You don’t need to use much. Spray and then brush his coat downwards so the conditioner is distributed properly.

Pomeranian Cuts For Summer

Don’t be tempted to have your Pomeranian clipped. Clipping your Pomeranian won’t keep him cool as the double coat works to insulate and keep your Pom cool in summer and warm in Winter.

Double-coated dog breeds like the Pomeranian often develop a condition called Post-Clipping Alopecia after clipping. If you must have a trimmed Pomeranian, talk to your Groomer about the best Pomeranian cuts for summer.

Ask the Groomer about trimming your Pomeranian with a short haircut using scissors. Cutting Pomeranian hair short with scissors instead of shaving is a better option. A show Pomeranian haircut is another option.

PSA for dog owners – we narrowly avoided tragedy.

We were out today, and when we got home, Romeo walked up to me with a plastic bag on his head!

A couple of nights ago, I finished a bag of Cheez-Its in the bedroom and threw the bag in my bedroom trash can. Romeo got into the trash and tried to get the crumbs left in the bag. Somehow he got the bag stuck on his head.

You could tell he struggled to get the bag off because items in the living room were strewn about. When I took the bag off, he was drenched and the bag was filled with condensation. The remaining crumbs were mush. He made his way to the water bowl and drank for about 2 minutes and when he finally stopped and walked away, he was wobbly and not walking straight.

He’s curled up next to me sleeping now, but my heart is still racing thinking about what might have happened if we were gone a little while longer.

How often do we toss things in the trash without thinking?

Donate your Pace Maker

Did you know that if you have a pacemaker, you can include it in your Will to be donated to a dog in need after you pass away?

Although pacemakers cannot be used for another human, they can help dogs with heart problems and potentially save their lives. You can arrange for the pacemker to be sent to a vet of your choice.
Many pacemakers are simply thrown away, and dogs may die because people do not know about this option.

Donating the pacemaker can even save the dog’s owner the cost of a new one, which can sometimes make a crucial difference in affording life-saving treatment.

CAUTION!!!! Very important!

A friendly reminder to not let your Poms walk on the pavement!

Club Member Highlight: David Vernon’s and Mark Greynold’s Pomeranian Success – A Journey of Dedication and Triumph

David & Mark with Garbo and Nikki in 2024

For David and Mark, the world of Pomeranian dog shows has been a passion spanning over two decades. Their journey began in 2000 when they welcomed their first Pomeranian, Diva, a stunning solid-black female from breeder Cynthia Wallen. With handler Sherry Lawall guiding her through the ranks, Diva quickly earned her championship title, sparking a lifelong enthusiasm for the sport.

Their first champion: Diva in 2001

Their love for Poms deepened as they acquired two more from Diane Finch, one of whom became a cherished house pet while the other joined their growing lineup of show dogs. Over the years, David and Mark’s roster evolved, with new additions entering the ring while retired champions enjoyed a life of comfort at home.

After a brief hiatus, the duo reignited their competitive spirit in January 2024 by welcoming Raven, another beautiful black Pom from Cynthia Wallen. Raven’s career soared, swiftly securing her championship under the expertise of handler Deb Wheeler. With excitement mounting, David and Mark expanded their team, acquiring Nikki and Garbo from Annie Coughlin, followed by a purchase from Tony Cabrera of Cricket—an enchanting little Pomeranian who debuted at Nationals with an impressive fourth-place finish in her class.

Cricket’s promising career has continued to flourish, amassing 12 points and three major wins, putting her on the brink of securing her championship title. (EDITOR’S NOTE: As of June 1st, Cricket has now finished her Championship quest, by winning BOB with her handler, Deb Wheeler). However, the true highlight of their comeback has been Nikki’s (Charm City’s Age Of Aquarius) extraordinary rise toward a Grand Championship.

Between April 24-27, 2025, Nikki had an outstanding showing across multiple events:

April 24, Mispillion Kennel Club: Best of Opposite Sex, earning a 4-point major under Judge John P. Wade.

April 25, Wilmington Kennel Club: Another Best of Opposite Sex victory, securing a second 4-point major under Judge Ken J. Murray.

April 26, Wilmington Kennel Club: A third 4-point major under Judge Kenneth E. Berg.

April 27, Penn Treaty Kennel Club: A fourth 4-point major under Judge Eva E. Berg.

With four majors in one weekend—a remarkable feat—Nikki now boasts 30 points and seven majors, putting her well on the path to a Grand Championship title. This thrilling success marks an exciting milestone for David, Mark, and their beloved Pomeranians.

As they continue to navigate the competitive world of dog shows, their unwavering dedication to the sport and their cherished Poms remains as strong as ever.  We greatly enjoy having both David and Mark in our club!
