ADOPTED – Joy (CKC Registered)

Joy is a 1.5 year old female Pom.  She weighs 9 pounds, has silky fur and milky white socks.  She has been spayed and is up to date on all of her shots.  She will also come with her CKC paperwork so you can register her.

She is very sweet!  When we picked her up she ran right up to us giving kisses.  For the car ride home she sat right down in the car seat and was a perfect little lady.  She ate kibble from my hand and she was fine with our dogs.  She curled up next to me on the couch that evening and when we went to bed she picked a spot on the floor in our room and plopped down for the night.  She is also an avid fetch player!
Joy came to us due to her owners living situation.  She did not have permission to have a pet and the landlord caught her.  For more pictures, Click here

ADOPTED 11/27!! Available Rescue – Brady

11/18 Update –  Brady had his 4 remain molars removed today. All he has left are his adorable “snaggletooth” canines. He will need to be on a soft food diet.

Please check out our Amazon Wish List to get Brady some post op wet food!

Brady has just arrived fresh from death row in Colonial Heights.   He was turned on October 27 and we don’t know much about him.

He went to the vet today (11/03) for a cursory exam because he was very itchy with no relief from Benadryl and it was making him miserable.  He is on a 10 day course of Prednisone during which we will be feeding him a nutritious diet with added coconut oil to relieve the dry skin.

He has no teeth remaining on his upper jaw and only his 2 canines and 4 molars on his bottom.  The molars are in need of cleaning, but we are going to see how much we can do with scaling to avoid putting him under anesthetic since they are in a good location.

What we can tell you is that so far he is super sweet, excellent in the car, and appears to be housebroken.  He is approximately 9 years old, 13 pounds and is already following me around the house, so he bonds quickly. He is well mannered on a leash and harness and was obviously someone’s pet until recently.

It is believed the girl that turned him in as a “stray” was actually his owner. He has no mats, is well fed, though he needs a groom. His fur is a bit dry, but that is nothing a good diet will not take care of.

Available Rescue – Bailey

Bailey is 12 years old, is very sweet and loves leaning into your leg for belly rubs or spooning on the floor. He has no problem with stairs, but will jump off the bed, so you have to watch him. We have wood floors and a three foot tall bed, not a good mix for jumping off with delicate leg bones.

He knows the word “outside”  and will go in and out with no problem. He lets you know when he’s ready to come back in by either scratching or giving a low bark.  The only other time he barks is for food, otherwise he is quiet as a mouse.
The vet said he was in pretty good overall shape, has cataracts in both eyes but still sees ok, was a bit thin, but has a strong heart. His nails were really long, but after they were cut back, he was able to walk much better.
He does have a physical defect – he only has half a bottom jaw (see pictures/video) ! You would never know it the way he gobbles down a bowl of kibble!  He doesn’t like anyone looking in his mouth.  As far as we could see at the vet exam, he has maybe a tooth or two in there, but is basically toothless. It was the vet’s opinion that Bailey was probably born this way or has at least been this way for many years, as he has adapted very well….. he curls his tongue up in such a way as to keep it in his mouth really well, although when he gets excited, his tongue flaps wildly!  He doesn’t drool at all.
He obviously should eat soft food, but he does grab kibble from the other dogs bowl. He was an even 7 lbs at his vet visit, but I can tell that he has been gaining weight since he’s been here. He was covered in fleas when he came, which I’m sure was the cause of some of his coat loss, but his coat has been coming in thicker in the last month as well.

He would do best in a home with older, low key, people.  He is content to just eat, sleep, and hang out. There are some rescues that seem to exude gratitude for a full belly and warm bed, Bailey is one of those. He personifies contentment.

Pet Parents Day

“For those who tirelessly scoop poop, dish out kibble and share a cramped bed with four paws, this day is for you.

You’ve planned birthday parties for Fido, bought specially-formulated oatmeal shampoo that costs more than your own, and made a point to stroll down the pet aisle every time you shop at the convenience store.
You might even plan vacations that include your pet, or make a point to carve out a couple of hours a day for playtime at home, a dog park or even the beach.
Devoted pet parents like you deserve more than a pat on the back—celebrate Pet Parent’s Day® and bond with your pet this weekend.”

ADOPTED!! Available for adoption – Buddy (chihuahua)

UPDATE – Buddy has mastered the game of fetch!  He loves to chase the ball all over the yard and brings it right back and drops it for another go!

Buddy has an awesome temperament, is super sweet, and very loving to every one he meets. He was surrendered as a chihuahua, and most likely is a deer head chihuahua, but he reminds us of our Miniature Pinscher.

Buddy was surrendered with his Pom sister Minnie because the family did not know the daughter was allergic to dogs. He was born on April 18, 2014, just over 6 lbs, is up to date on all shots and is neutered.

He is very athletic and agile. He has very long legs and looks like a tiny deer when he runs.  Our bed is about 2.5 feet high and he jumps onto the bed without a running start.  He’s very attentive and eager to please. I think he would make an excellent agility dog.

He’s also perfectly fine curled up on the couch watching TV all day, but he does need some exercise.

He is good with kids and dogs, he hasn’t met a cat yet. He should be in a home with someone that likes to play in the day and snuggle at night.  His favorite place to sleep is curled between my legs.

Buddy’s adoption fee is $200
